Why resolutions are like diets…

2014Let me ask you something, how do resolutions feel to you? For me, they feel like going on a diet. Inconvenient, short term, not very effective, with a sprinkling of guilt and shame when I don’t follow through. Nothing about any of that feels good to me; and isn’t that what we all want, to feel good?

That’s why this year I’m saying out with resolutions and in with intentions. I’m talking big hairy audacious intentions! Intentions that expand my limits and challenge my beliefs about who I am, what I’m capable of, and what I truly want. Behind me are the days of living small, of making excuses why I can’t, and not believing it’s possible.

Here’s the beauty about intentions – instead of fearing making mistakes, you get to learn ways NOT to do something; sounds pretty audacious to me.

Need some help mapping your intentions for 2014? Here are 5 strategic steps to creating intentions to be proud of:

1. Make a declaration!

What do you intend to have, do, be, or experience in 2014?

2.. How do you want to feel about your intention once you actualize it?

Decide how you want to feel when it comes to fruition and choose to feel that way now. Remember, the journey is as/if not more important as the destination.

3. Get out of your box.

Be open to unexpected miracles, opportunities, collaborations and possibilities.

4. Take action.

Action is the bridge between desire and results. Nothing is yours unless you choose it. Choose to take action; big and small.

5. Recognize your successes daily.

Even if it’s in learning how NOT to do something. Recognize your victories, baby steps, feelings, and creations.

To the best 2014 you’ve ever had! 😉

Cheers,

Erika
